Teenager arrested driving a stolen vehicle
A 17-year-old teenager was arrested at around 4 a.m. this Thursday morning on the Île-aux-Tourte bridge, while attempting to flee from police officers at the wheel of a stolen vehicle in Saint-Lazare.
"Police officers from the Vaudreuil highway station attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Highway 40 East. The driver refused to stop, which led to a pursuit," confirms Sûreté du Québec officer Louis-Philippe Ruel.
The young man ended up on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge after colliding with another vehicle.
"The teenager was arrested and released. He will appear at a later date and faces charges of flight, dangerous driving, receiving stolen goods and possession of burglary tools," adds Officer Ruel.
Given the suspect's age, he should be tried in Youth Court. However, depending on the decision of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions, he could be tried as an adult.
