An alternative could be built there in 2024-2025
No bike path on chemin Saint-François in Rigaud
With the aim of improving traffic safety in the chemin Saint-François area south of rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste Ouest, the Ville de Rigaud is working on an alternative that should see the light of day in 2024-2025. This would involve building a section on the disused railroad line. Access would be provided at several points.
As part of the reconstruction of the curbs and sidewalks on the road, the creation of a bicycle lane is not an option, despite numerous requests from the town, due to the standards of the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), which owns this road.
The current configuration and width of the road would make it impossible to build lanes to these standards, the recommended width of a bike path being 3.0 m, or 1.5 m per direction," points out the Town.
This project is part of the Council's longer-term plan to connect this section to the Prescott-Russell Trail (https://www.sentierprtrail.com/ to Ontario) and continue it to Vaudreuil-Dorion.
