Teachers back on duty Tuesday September 5
Alloprof, a goldmine for teachers and new arrivals
In preparation for the start of the new school year, the Alloprof team is offering a section designed just for primary and secondary school teachers, to help them in their day-to-day work, including lesson planning.
The organization also offers a short guide for new arrivals to help explain the Quebec education system and demystify certain elements to promote their children's school career.
Turnkey resources to support teachers
The organization now offers a section of its site designed specifically for primary and secondary school teachers, packed with relevant tips to make lesson preparation easier, especially at the start of the year: Alloprof Enseignants.
"In 26 years, Alloprof has developed a lot of resources. We wanted to help teachers quickly find the resources that best meet the needs of their students, depending on their difficulties, level and subject, and give them lots of good ideas for optimizing their use in class and at home. This can be particularly interesting for teachers at the start of their careers, who are looking to expand their toolbox," explains Pascal Bonaldo, Student Services Manager and spokesperson for Alloprof. It offers, for example, free resources to support students and their parents, printable tools and turnkey activities.
It's also possible to order free promotional material, such as posters to decorate classrooms or bookmarks to encourage reading and remind students of tools that can help them.
Helping parents prepare for the new school year
"There's no course in parenting a child who's going to school! Even if you were born here, it can be difficult to fully understand the Quebec education system and the school system. It can be even more complicated for newcomers who have to learn everything about their new environment," recalls Mr. Bonaldo. To meet this need, Alloprof this year created a short guide for new arrivals that, among other things, demystifies school terms, explains what you need to know to register for kindergarten, demystifies the report card and explains how to support your child if he or she is studying in a language other than their own.
Thanks to the support of Fondation Desjardins, Alloprof Parents also offers a complete dossier on the back-to-school period, to help tame the stress often associated with this time of year, ease transitions, get organized and establish an effective homework routine. Last but not least, because entry to the big school begins in kindergarten, the team worked on a folder to help parents prepare their minis: Prêt pour la maternelle!
Regular services return
While the Alloprof website is accessible at all times, with over 25,000 items of content and a self-help zone open 7 days a week, year-round, teachers will be back on duty, answering students' school-related questions by text, chat or phone, starting September 5.
Alloprof is a charitable organization that helps Quebec students turn their academic challenges into successes, by offering professional and stimulating services free of charge. To support its mission, Alloprof develops and delivers online services and resources with the help of a team of passionate teachers and professionals. Alloprof helps 550,000 Quebec students every year, 60 million times.
