At the corner of rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste (route 342) and rue Jacqueline
Rectangular rapid flashing lights soon to be installed in Rigaud
Faced with numerous traffic issues on route 342, also known as rue Saint-Jean-Bastiste, the Ville de Rigaud has decided to take action. At the regular municipal council meeting held on Tuesday August 22, elected officials ratified a project to install rectangular, rapid-flashing traffic lights on its territory.
District 4 Councillor Kevin Ménard presented the project, which will be installed at the intersection of Route 342 (rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste) and rue Jacqueline, near the L'Étoile restaurant.
Considering the road safety issues on route 342, designated as Saint-Jean-Baptiste;
Considering that this road is under the jurisdiction of the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec;
Considering road safety is neglected and locations are deficient;
Considering that the Town of Rigaud wishes to act in order to make this main downtown road safe;
Considering the possibility, for the Ville de Rigaud, of installing rapid flashing rectangular lights at the pedestrian crossing located at the intersection of Route 342 and Jacqueline Street;
Considering that, in order to carry out this installation work, the Town must sign a collaboration and design agreement with the MTQ, it is proposed that the Town confirm to the Ministry its willingness to take over management of the project.
Elected officials hope that the project will be up and running by spring 2024. The resolution was adopted unanimously by council members.
