Producteurs de grains Montérégie Ouest
Discover agriculture by bike
To cap off the end of the summer season, Producteurs de grains Montérégie Ouest, in collaboration with Développement Vaudreui-Soulanges, the Soulanges Canal Park and the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC, are offering local cyclists a series of educational panels on the nature of their grain production.
This fall, cyclists on the Soulanges Canal Park and Sainte-Martine bike paths will have the opportunity to contemplate the enchanting landscapes and vast fields that stretch as far as the eye can see, and to learn more about the crops that surround them.
Certain sections of the bike paths have been specifically chosen, as they run alongside cultivated land in the heart of a dynamic agricultural zone. Three series of panels stand proudly on each of the bike paths, explaining the different uses of soybeans, wheat and grain corn.
"Grain is an integral part of Quebecers' daily lives, but they don't always know where it comes from. The aim of this initiative is to raise public awareness of the importance of these crops, while detailing how they are actually processed," explains Jocelyn Prud'homme, President of Producteurs de grains Montérégie Ouest.
"These panels turn every visit into an opportunity to highlight the essential work of grain producers. Développement Vaudreuil-Soulanges warmly supports this initiative, which allows users of the bike path to rediscover our agricultural landscapes in a new light," adds Philippe Roy, Director, Planning and Regional Issues at Développement Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
