Free lifesaving courses this fall in Vaudreuil-Dorion
The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion will be offering free lifesaving courses this fall. This is made possible by financial assistance from the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec as part of its Plan d'action pour valoriser la pratique d'activités physiques, sportives et récréatives au Québec 2022-2027.
The courses offered are as follows:
- National Lifeguard:
- Course duration: 42 h + exam;
- From September 14 to December 7 + exam on December 14;
- Free for residents and non-residents;
- Fees: Pocket mask ($16) and anti-viral valve ($5);
- Prerequisites: Must be 15 years of age at time of exam. Bronze Cross and General First Aid certification (16 hours). Bring proof of certification to first course.
The National Lifeguard certificate allows you to work as a lifeguard from the age of 17. It is valid for 2 years. Absence from more than one course results in automatic failure.
- Bronze Cross:
- Course duration: 28 h + exam;
- From September 15 to November 17 + exam on November 24;
- Free for residents and non-residents;
- Fees: Pocket mask ($16) and anti-viral valve ($5);
- Prerequisites: Must be 13 years of age at time of exam and have passed Bronze Medallion (bring proof to first class). Absence from more than one course will result in automatic failure.
- First Aid - General:
- Course length: 16 h
- First cohort :
- August 21 and 22, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (bring a lunch);
- August 23, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m;
- Second cohort :
- Sunday, November 26, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m;
- Saturday, December 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m;
- Sunday, December 3, 1 to 4 p.m;
- Free for residents and non-residents;
- Fees: Pocket mask ($16) and anti-viral valve ($5).
- Water safety instructor:
- Free for residents and non-residents;
- Fridays, September 15 to December 15, 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m;
- Prerequisites: Must be 15 years of age before the last day of the course and hold a Bronze Cross certificate; pass a swim test on the first day of the course;
- Materials required: Swimming Instructor's Kit (handed out at first class). Candidates must bring their Canadian Lifesaving Manual to use as a reference during the course;
- Success criteria: Successful completion of all components of the Swimming Instructor course. Absence from more than one course will result in failure;
- Technique evaluation (3 hours), classroom (12 hours) and pool (17 hours) courses, teaching internship (minimum 8 hours).
Residents will be able to register online as of 6 p.m. on September 5. Non-residents will be able to take advantage of remaining places from 9 a.m. on September 7. Classes will run from September 23 to December 10 (11 classes - break October 7 and 8).
