Discover the Soulanges Canal by kayak or SUP this Saturday
Back by popular demand, Soulanges Canal Park is opening a 3rd date for kayaking and SUPing down the Soulanges Canal this Saturday, August 19.
The 7.5 km route with portages allows you to discover and appreciate the magnificent landscape and architecture of the canal, and in particular Lock 4 of the Soulanges Canal.
The activity will be postponed until the following day in case of rain. Continuous departures are scheduled between 9:30 and 10:30 am. You can take part free of charge by bringing your own boat. A $25 fee is charged to rent a boat for the duration of the event. The boat will be delivered to the starting point and includes PFD, paddle and safety kit.
Registration is required for the bus ride back to the starting point.
The meeting point is the parking lot and departure point of the land shuttle (the aim is to leave your vehicle at the end of the descent route): Pointe-des-Cascades (parking on the curve of the 338). Final details of event logistics, departure times, shuttle and parking facilities will be sent to participants a few days before the event.
Paddling route: From Rang Saint-Féréol (Les Cèdres) to the heart of the village of Pointe-des-Cascades. There will be two portages: the first at Lock 4 on the Soulanges Canal (approx. 500 m), and the second at Rang Saint-Antoine (street crossing). The tour lasts 2 to 3 hours for an average paddler.
The required paddling level is beginner. Nevertheless, the event is classified as Intermediate, due to portages and water ingress and egress. The canal is a naturalized, steep-banked waterway, so ingress and egress at portages require good strength and agility. We recommend that you use light, sturdy boats and sail in pairs or small groups. Wheels for transporting kayaks will be available on site, but participants who have them are asked to bring them along.
