Improve your cognitive skills with CISSSMO's new SYNAPSE program
The CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest has issued a press release highlighting the efforts and successes of the first cohort of six participants in the brand-new SYNAPSE program, offered by the geriatric services of the CLSC de Vaudreuil-Dorion.
But what is the SYNAPSE program? It's a program designed to help people with cognitive complaints or mild neurocognitive disorders. The aim of SYNAPSE is to improve participants' memory and attentional capacities, enabling them to achieve a better quality of life, and a greater sense of autonomy, control and well-being.
More specifically, program participants :
- Communicate information on cognitive functioning (memory, planning, concentration, etc.);
- Teach strategies to consolidate/improve cognitive functioning, so as to be better organized in daily activities and minimize forgetfulness, to better record new information and retrieve it more easily, and to solve problems efficiently;
- Offer exercises related to cognitive functioning. Participants are invited to practice the strategies learned in the sessions, with exercises to be completed at home.
And so much more!
Following the program, some participants testified to its benefits.
"I've made changes in my life that help me forget less. I bought a monthly planner and learned to better organize my notes and my schedule.
"I realized how anxiety can affect my memory. Stress management strategies help me a lot."
For those interested, a new class will be trained this fall. To register: 450 455-6171, ext. 70144.
