The Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC is the target of a weather warning issued by Environment Canada for this afternoon and evening. Severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong gusts, large hail and heavy rain are expected in the area.

The weather forecasting authority warns that large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong gusts can throw loose objects, damage flimsy buildings, tear off tree branches and overturn large vehicles.

Occasionally, severe thunderstorms can even produce tornadoes. Torrential rains can cause flash floods and water accumulation on roads.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. When thunder rumbles, it's time to take shelter indoors.
