The Tri-O-Lacs Challenge returns
Back for a second year, the Tri-O-Lacs challenge will be held on August 6. The competition site is located in Coteau-du-Lac, along the Soulanges Canal and bike path.
Sanctioned by Triathlon Québec, this family event consists of a triathlon and a run, and is open to all. "This year, we're aiming for 150 to 200 runners and triathletes. We're also hoping for around 75 volunteers," says Thomas Koniuszewski, vice-president of Tri-O-Lacs.
Eleven categories are available, with starts from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in Paul Stephens Park.
- Sprint triathlon - Men (16 and over): 750m/20km/5km;
- Sprint triathlon - Women (16 and over): 750m/20km/5km;
- Sprint triathlon team 750m/20km/5km;
- Triathlon U13/U15: 375m/10km/2.5km;
- Triathlon initiation: 375m/10km/2.5km;
- Introductory team triathlon: 375m/10km/2.5km;
- Youth Triathlon 1 (4 to 7 years): 2.5m/1km/250m;
- Youth Triathlon 2 (6 to 9 years) - 50m/1.5km/500m;
- Youth Triathlon 3 (8 to 11 years) - 100m/3km/1km;
- Youth Triathlon 4 (10 to 13 years) - 200m/5km/1.5km;
- Running: 1km.
"Paul Stephens Park is the Tri-O-Lacs Triathlon Club's main training site. It's the perfect place for this kind of event. In fact, the site has already hosted a Canadian Triathlon Championship," adds Koniuszewski.
Because this is a family event, a bouncy castle will be set up on site to keep the kids entertained. "We'll also have an announcer and music on site," confirms the vice-president.
Finally, door prizes will be drawn among the volunteers present. Volunteers will have the chance to win tee-off times at the Rivière-Rouge Golf Club in Coteau-du-Lac, as well as gift cards courtesy of Pharmaprix Souren Bedrossian in Saint-Lazare.
