Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges
Discover the little-known Vaudreuilloise Léonise Valois
On Saturday, July 29, the people of Vaudreuil-Dorion and surrounding areas are invited to a festive evening. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will open its doors free of charge for the presentation of the show Léonise Valois - Une histoire vraie, réinventée.
Produced by the Théâtre de la Pièce cassée troupe, the play enabled 24 young people from Vaudreuil-Dorion summer camps to take part in the creative process as part of a theatrical cultural mediation project.
Accompanied by a director, two actors and a musician, the creative team visited the summer camps to introduce these young people to theater, singing and even printing.
While the creative team first conceived a beginning, middle and end to the play, the young people were called upon to create all the missing scenes in the production.
Together, they created an idea: what would have happened if Léonise Valois had been a schoolteacher before taking up poetry?
Theater and exhibition
In addition to the presentation of the play, spectators will be able to learn more about Léonise Valois, as part of the temporary exhibition set up in the outdoor courtyard of the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
For the occasion, Léonise Valois' biographer and great-grandniece, Louise Warren, will be present.
The audience will also be able to discover short stories invented by the young people and recorded in written books made by them, as well as hand-crafted reproductions of the writer's poetry collections made by the director.
The play will be performed at 8pm. The evening will conclude with a discussion between the artists and the audience. Those interested in attending are asked to bring their own chairs.
In case of rain, the show will be presented at the Opticentre Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Admission is free, and the show is open to all.
