A policewoman earns a fine following a high-speed pursuit
Valérie Tremblay, the policewoman involved in a collision that injured two people in Coteau-du-Lac in August 2022, escaped criminal prosecution for dangerous driving, but was still charged with a violation of the Highway Safety Code.
At least, that's the decision made public this Tuesday by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP), following a review of the report produced by the Independent Investigation Bureau (IIB), which was submitted last November.
On August 17, 20233, policewoman Valérie Tremblay attempted to intercept a vehicle on the Monseigneur-Langlois bridge for a violation of the Highway Safety Code.
The driver had then accelerated and taken the Chemin du Fleuve in Coteau-du-Lac. A pursuit ensued, but was halted when the fleeing driver collided head-on with another vehicle.
The violent impact seriously injured both the fleeing driver and the driver of the other vehicle.
The Independent Investigation Bureau (IIB) was then called in to investigate, as it is mandated to do when an incident involving police officers results in the death or serious injury of citizens.
"Since Ms. Tremblay was served with a statement of offence for a violation of the Highway Safety Code, namely committing an action likely to endanger the safety of persons or property, the DPCP will not comment further in order not to prejudice the fairness and integrity of the judicial process," explains the DPCP.
