Tuesday was an emotional day for the athletes in the first block of the 57th Finale des Jeux du Québec.

In a thrilling match, the men's baseball team won the gold medal, the first for the Sud-Ouest since the start of the competition.

The young players from the region won with a score of 16-15 against the team from Laval.

In athletics, Anabel Dubreuil-Bissonnette (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot) came 5th in the high jump, and in swimming, the boys finished 21st in the 4 x 50-meter relay.

Team spirit rewarded

At the Jeux du Québec, team spirit is the strength of the organization, so it's important to underline it.

In fact, several athletes from the region were awarded certificates recognizing their team spirit throughout this first block of competitions.

Swimming - Alberto Enrique Moreno Zambrino (Vaudreuil-Dorion)
Cycling - Christophe Masse (Coteau-du-Lac)
Athletics - Antoine Robichaud (Les Cèdres)
Triathlon - Olivier Koniuszewski (Saint-Lazare)

Tuesday also saw the start of the second block of competitions, and the athletes arrived in Rimouski more motivated than ever.

As soon as they arrived, the women's soccer team recorded their first victory with a score of 6-0 against Côte-Nord. This Wednesday, they face the Laval team, while the boys take on the Laurentians.

Girls' baseball officially enters the Jeux du Québec program today, with the Sud-Ouest taking on Richelieu-Yamaska in the morning and Lac-Saint-Louis in the afternoon.

The volleyball girls will play three matches. They will take on teams from the Estrie, Centre-du-Québec and Mauricie regions.

Golfers will have the chance to play at the Club de Golf du Bic. The boys will take part in the Deux balles, meilleures balles tournament.

For his part, Félix Lamontagne (Saint-Lazare) will be taming the mountain bike circuit in the morning as part of the short-track cross-country race.

Finally, in sailing, the sailors will be on the water at the Rimouski marina.
