Safety doesn't take vacations!
Extra police surveillance during the construction vacations
With the start of the construction vacations, the Sûreté du Québec would like to inform all users of the road and recreational tourism networks that it will be stepping up its interventions to encourage caution, on the road network as well as on bodies of water and trails, from July 21 to August 6.
The theme of the long vacation is "Safety doesn't take a vacation! This angle aims to remind all users that they must apply the rules of road and recreational safety, as well as the principle of prudence, all year round, even when they're on vacation.
At all times, on the road, on the water or on the trail, they must adopt safe behaviours to ensure their own safety and that of others.
The construction vacation period represents a time of year when the number of fatal and injury collisions is particularly high.
In 2022, for the same period, 12 people lost their lives in 11 fatal collisions on the road network, throughout the territory served by the Sûreté du Québec. There was also one fatality in a fatal collision involving an off-road vehicle.
It should be remembered that around a third of Quebecers take the vacations during this period, which results in a considerable increase in travel on the road network.
As a result, there will be an increased police presence not only on the roads, but also on trails and waterways, to ensure compliance with regulations.
The Sûreté du Québec invites vacationers to practice their favorite recreational activities in a safe manner.
Helmets must be worn by all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts, and it is strongly recommended that personal flotation devices be worn at all times when out on the water.
We're counting on your cooperation to make this a safe and memorable vacation for all.
To keep abreast of the various police operations taking place during this long vacation, the public is invited to subscribe to the Sûreté du Québec's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
