A fire completely destroyed a garage next to a private residence on Montée de la Station in Sainte-Justine-de-Newton late Wednesday afternoon.

An impressive column of smoke was visible for miles around. As soon as the initial call came in, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton firefighters enlisted the help of the units from Saint-Clet, Saint-Polycarpe, Sainte-Marthe and Saint-Télesphore.

Before firefighters arrived, the owner of the property, assisted by a neighbor, was in the process of moving a camper and a watercraft to prevent them from being damaged by the flames.

At the time of writing, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined. However, there is no indication that criminal intent was involved.
