Category winners announced
A look back at the final day of the Régates de Valleyfield
The 2023 edition of the Régates de Valleyfield is already a thing of the past. The boats' engines stopped roaring in the last hour as the organization crowned the champions of the various categories this afternoon.
Once again, the Régates de Valleyfield and La Ligue de Régates d'Hydroplane (HRL) delivered the goods, offering thousands of spectators top-class racing. Apart from an inconsequential swerve at the start of the weekend, sunshine, fun and thrills were the order of the day.
For the first time in the history of the Régates de Valleyfield, the Novice (Junior) class was included in the competition. As luck would have it, the champion crowned in this category was Jayden Théoret. He won the honors by being the fastest on the course named after his grandfather Robert. He thus becomes the first Junior class champion in the history of the Régates de Valleyfield.
Here are the winners in each class:
Novice Hydro (Final): Jayden Théorêt;
2.5 Litres (Final): Grant Liddycoat;
Formula 2 500 (Final): John Shaw;
JSS (Final): Jimmy Stewart & Peg Ewancio;
Hydro 350 (Final): Bobby King;
Grand Prix (Final) :Andrew Tate;
Driver Andrew Tate scored a second Grand Prix victory in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, driving his 173 km/hour car.
It wasn't just on the Robert Théôret circuit that fans were treated to a feast for the eyes and ears. This was also the case on the Distillerie Trois-Lacs stage, where a succession of artists took to the stage over the weekend. These included La Bronze and Fouki on July 14, and Mentana and Salesbarbe on Saturday, July 15.
"We'll be back and we're already promising surprises for next year," said a member of the Régates de Valleyfield organization earlier on Sunday.
