A look back at Day 2 of the Régates de Valleyfield
Fine weather, warmth, humidity and fun were the order of the day on the second day of competition at the Régates de Valleyfield, 2023 edition. Fans gathered at Delpha-Sauvé Park were able to catch a glimpse of the up-and-coming 9-16 year-olds in action in the Junior class on the Robert-Théorêt circuit.
The primary mission of this class is to inspire the next generation of hydroplane pilots and introduce them to this thrilling discipline.
Starting at 10 a.m., the boats took to the starting line. Teams competed in the Novice Hydro, 2.5 Litres, Formule 2 500, Vintages, Hydro 350, ProHydro and Grand Prix classes until the end of the day at around 5pm.
In addition to the daytime races, Parc Delpha-Sauvé comes alive in the evening with a musical program. On Saturday evening, starting at 8:30 p.m., the group Mentana will take to the stage. Here's how the Régates de Valleyfield describe the event on their website:
Beneath smoldering guitars, Robin-Joël's powerful vocals, Viviane's airy vocal harmonies, deep piano and fiery rhythms, Mentana's new show is a landscape of resilience, travel and the unknown. It's a show with folk impulses and rich cinematic visuals. Mentana invites the audience on a sensitive and powerful musical adventure.
Following this, Salebarbes (Jonathan and Éloi Painchaud, Kevin McIntyre, George Belliveau and Jean-François Breau) will entertain the audience with their Acadian repertoire and a dose of hopeful humor.
The races continue tomorrow, when the finals promise to be a sight to behold.
