A diverse crowd gathered at Bellevue Park in Pincourt to celebrate and participate in the eighth edition of the city's Multicultural Festival on Saturday, July 8.
The event brought together residents from different cultural backgrounds to celebrate the town's diversity. Several musical performers took to the stage to entertain the crowd with styles ranging from Cuban music to Afro-indigenous pop to Indian Amrita dance.
Pincourt Mayor Claude Comeau said he was delighted many residents took part in the event to watch the diverse musical performances on stage and to sample the different international cuisine offerings.
More than 50 languages
"Here's something I didn't know. We have 50 languages in Pincourt. We have a huge diversity of culture and it's fantastic we can bring everyone together. It's a big success and it's really nice to have this event right by the water," said Comeau.
The festival also drew Peter Schiefke, the federal Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Marie-Claude Nichols, the provincial Member of the National Assembly for Vaudreuil.
"I take part in Intercultural Festival every year and this is one of my favourite events," said Schiefke."
"It's an opportunity for us to truly realize and see first-hand the diversity that makes up our community. Kudos to the City of Pincourt for doing this every year and to all the community groups that come out and celebrate their cultures with share with our community," he added.
"This event helps me to get to know the people in our community. We're here every year and our team has a kiosk. It's very festive and fun and I get a chance to meet new people and see my old colleagues," said Nichols.
