Fuel spill
Preventive closure of Plage de Saint-Zotique
Following a major gas spill in Rivière-Beaudette on Sunday, the Plage de Saint-Zotique team has closed the waterfront as a precautionary measure.
On Sunday, a heavy truck carrying gasoline overturned on Highway 20 near Rivière-Beaudette. Nearly 40,000 liters of fuel spilled onto the road and into the Beaudette River.
"The Rivière Beaudette flows into Lac Saint-François. That's why we've decided to close the beach today as a precautionary measure," confirms site manager Isabelle Dalcourt.
Ms. Dalcourt also confirms that teams from the Ministry of the Environment are currently on site to test water quality.
"So far, we haven't had any negative results, but we preferred not to take the risk. We hope to be able to welcome swimmers within the next 24 to 48 hours," adds the manager.
Although swimming is not possible, the Plage site is still open, as are the paddling pool and water games.
