Artists and city officials gathered at the Trestler House on June 29 for the official launch of the Mon circuit d'Art initiative that features nearly 60 works of art prominently displayed in public spaces throughout Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The principle of the art circuit is simple. People can use their smartphones to scan the QR code on the descriptive poster of a work of art in a public space and discover the concept behind the artwork through texts, photos and videos.

Each work is classified according to one of three routes - Le Centre, Sur Harwood et Périphérie - which can be visited on foot, by bike or car. This enables people to go from one work to the next and complete the entire route.

"We found our public artworks weren't being showcased as much as we would have liked. Every year, new creations are added inside municipal buildings, on the premises of our partners and outdoors," said Chloé Marcil, Head of Culture and Community Life.

"Our aim is to enable residents and visitors to discover not only the work itself, but also the project behind the final result, through a high-quality, easy-to-use showcase," said Marcil.

"For over 10 years, we've been promoting culture in all its forms in our city. Certain works are now emblematic, such as the mural on the overpass on Valois Street and the water tower at the entrance to the Dorion sector," said Mayor Guy Pilon.

"These artworks have become part of our landscape and we also want to encourage people to know the story behind these works. The art circuit is way for people to learn about how these projects were created," Pilon added.

"I'd like to thank all those who worked to put this new tool in place and especially all our artists who embellish our territory," said Mayor Guy Pilon.

All the artwork can be consulted online at jesuismozaik.com. The art circuit is a project carried out as part of the 2021-2024 cultural development agreement between the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec.
