The Centre Multisports André Chagnon in Vaudreuil-Dorion has reopened after it was closed late yesterday afternoon because of a sewer backup that was caused by a torrential downpour.
The reopening was confirmed by France Lavoie, Director of Communications for the city. Aside from the gymnasiums and track, there was no significant damage in the building, she said.
The downpour also flooded some city streets and parking lots. Motorists on Boulevard de la Gare near Rue d'Orleans had to drive through a stretch of water-covered roadway.
The city's fire department was also involved in 40 interventions between 3:50 p.m. and 8 p.m. because of floods, electrical hazards and fire alarms triggered by the heavy rain.
Emergency personnel assisted many citizens to limit damage to their homes, said Lavoie.
