A fire badly damaged the V.I.P. Pub on Don Quichotte Boulevard in L'Île-Perrot early this morning.

Firefighters quickly responded at 3:20 a.m. after receiving a call from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police who were on patrol at the time and noticed smoke billowing from the structure.

One firefighter was overcome by smoke and was treated by paramedics at the scene. The blaze caused considerable damage to the building.

Firefighters from Terrasse-Vaudreuil and Pincourt\Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot were also dispatched and helped their colleagues put out the blaze.

SQ spokeswoman Valérie Beauchamp confirmed the fire was not of criminal origin.
