The first antique car show in Pincourt drew a large crowd to Bellevue Park on June 18.
The event was held by Voitures anciennes du Québec which does about 15 shows each each year to highlight old cars and their history.
“There’s quite a crowd here today. It’s a family event. There’s something for everybody’s taste. You may like a 1960s Chevy and someone else may like a 1988 Ford. That’s the beauty of this hobby," said organization administrator Jean-Yves Gauthier.
“Our mission is to promote a heritage that represents the antique car community for the province of Quebec. If nobody takes care of these cars then they’ll wind up god know where," Gauthier told Néomédia.
It was the first time the event was held in Pincourt."It’s a beautiful park along the water. We’re kind of lucky with the locations when we organize these events," said Gauthier.
Voitures anciennes du Quebec was founded in 1974 will celebrate their 50th anniversary next year. And as the years move on, there are fewer older antique cars available for display.
“There are less and less of these classics. There are some but they’re kept in garages because the owners are older and can't make it to the shows. And with the antique status now applicable to cars 25 years and older, automobiles from 1998 and earlier can now be displayed," said Gauthier.
Pincourt Mayor Claude Comeau said the antique car show was a great event that attracted a lot of residents and visitors. He hopes it returns next year.
“We’re hoping to make it an annual festival. We have the Black Cadillacs providing the music and entertainment today. There's hot dogs and hamburgers and we also have cotton candy and bubbles for the kids," said Comeau.
The Voitures anciennes du Québec will host another antique car show at Pointe du Moulin Historical Park in Notre Dame de l'île-Perrot on Sunday, June 25.
