More than 400 families participated in Peter Schiefke's superhero barbecue at his riding office in Vaudreuil-Dorion on Sunday, June 18.
The grounds were packed with parents and their children who took advantage of the great weather to play games, a bouncy castle, face painting, other activities, pose for pictures with Schefike and superhero characters, and enjoy free hot dogs, drinks and other snacks.
For Scheifke, the annual event is a way to meet his constituents to thank them for their support and to address any concerns or questions they may have. Schiefke is the federal Liberal Member of Parliament for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region.
“This year once again we were able to welcome over 400 families. I’m always excited about the turnout and we’re blessed once again with nice weather," Schiefke told Néomédia.
“The kids always have a great time but it’s also an opportunity for parents to come here, let their kids play for a bit, and then come and ask me questions, share ideas, concerns, whatever they want," said Schiefke.
“My motivation for any event is to find unique ways to get people out to be able to talk to them. It’s an opportunity for us to show people where our office is and to give anyone the opportunity to ask questions," he added.
“People have taken me aside, shared some things with me, asked some questions and it’s an honour and a privilege to answer them on-site. It’s always a positive event," said Schiefke.
The success of the event this year has Schiefke considering whether he'll stage next year's event on Father's Day as well.
"This is the first time we did it on Father's Day and the fathers have actually come up to me and expressed great appreciation for that. We'll see what happens next year. We might do it again on Father's Day based on the feedback we've received," said Schiefke.
