Emergency services and public works crews are currently assessing and cleaning up a hydrocarbon spill into a ditch on Route Harwood in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

According to information obtained by Néomédia, a public works employee noticed the spill opposite 1113 Route Harwood.

The spill covers a distance of about 60 metres and authorities suspect the source was from a nearby business.

Vaudreuil-Dorion firefighters were quickly dispatched to plug the leak with plastic sheeting and sand. Their rapid intervention helped limit the damage.

The city's public works crews are currently surveying the area to ensure the spill has been contained.

Teams from the provincial environment ministry and Urgences Santé have also been sent to the scene.
