The municipal hub is a major project for Vaudreuil-Dorion and thanks to resident and photographer Christian Gonzalez, visitors to the Néomédia website can follow the construction process in aerial mode.

Located close to the Vaudrueil-Dorion train station, bus terminal and the Centre multisports André-Chagnon, the municipal hub will house the new city hall, library, aquatic centre and have a public square. The hub is also close to the future Vaudrueil-Soulanges hospital.

Before beginning the project, the city spent several years completing major infrastructure upgrades to its arena, fire department, water filtration and purification facilities and the Saint Charles Avenue overpass.

The city hall is currently located on the second floor of a commercial facility on rue Dutrisac and has been rented since 1977. Since then municipal officials have been planning to build an official city hall for several years.

An empty lot on rue Émile-Bouchard was acquired by the city in 2018  to build the municipal hub. It was touted at the time as a large-scale project that would bring the city hall, library, a public square and aquatic complex together in one central location

The site is close to the Vaudreuil-Dorion train station, bus station, the Centre multisports André-Chagnon, major highways and the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital.

The hub will provide centralized services within a highly-dense area - 51 percent of homes are located within two kilometers of the hub and 95 percent within four kilometers.

The city's first call for tenders in June 2021 was cancelled due to market conditions and because only one bid was received in the amount of $49.9 million.

In May 2022, council introduced a notice-of-motion authorizing an increase in the expenditure and borrowing capacity for the construction of the municipal hub.

In September 2022, council awarded the contract for the construction of phase 1 of the Municipal Hub to the lowest bidder, Groupe Geyser from Laval. The contract was worth $67.2 million including taxes which is in line with estimates.

A portion of the taxes, 100 percent of the GST and 50 percent of the QST, about $6 million, was reimbursed by the federal and provincial government.

The town hall and library will be housed in a single building. The aquatic complex will be built in a subsequent phase of the project, depending on the government subsidy programs in place at that time.

A subsidy of over $4.8 million was also announced by the federal and provincial governments for the construction of the new library.

The financial assistance comes from the federal New Building Canada Fund and the Quebec, Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component - Small Communities Fund.

Construction of the combined town hall/library building and public square began in fall 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2024.

Federal MP Peter Schiefke, provincial MNA Marie-Claude Nichols, Mayor Guy Pilon and municipal council officially participated in the ground breaking ceremony in November 2022.

The stepped staircase, located in the lobby of the hub, was installed in May. The staircase will provide a social space for library users and citizens. It will also be extended outside the building. The modules were prefabricated in the factory and delivered to the site.
