The long-awaited 19th edition of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Relay for Life will take place at Olympic Park in Pincourt this Saturday, June 10, beginning at 6 p.m.
This event is dedicated to raise funds for cancer research and awareness about cancer.
The Relay for Life brings participants together from all walks of life for a night of solidarity, hope and support for those affected by this devastating disease.
There's still time for interested individuals and companies to register and take an active role in this great event. Registration remains open right up to the day of the event and offers an opportunity for everyone to make a contribution.
Participants can get involved by forming teams and walking or running during the relay to symbolize the endurance and perseverance of cancer sufferers.
In addition to the participation of many committed citizens, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Relay for Life will be held under the honorary presidency of Peter Schiefke, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
Schiefke, who represents the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region in the House of Commons in Ottawa, is a survivor of the disease. "His support and commitment to this vital cause is an inspiring example to us all," the event's organizing committee said in a press release.
"We are also grateful to our principal partners, the Caisse-Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the town of Pincourt who have generously contributed to make this exceptional event happen," said the organizing committee.
"Their unwavering support is a testament to their commitment to continue the fight against cancer and their desire to make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the disease," the organizing committee added.
The Relay for Life is not just a walk in solidarity, but also an opportunity to remember loved ones who have been affected by the disease.
By purchasing a luminary, participants can honour their memory and show their support for those who are still battling the disease.
Luminaries are candles that are placed in special bags that bear the names of cancer survivors and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer.
After being lit during the twilight ceremony, luminaries provide light and inspiration to participants and remind everyone why we must unite in the fight against cancer.
This event also represents a unique opportunity to highlight inspiring stories of courage, resilience and hope in the face of cancer.
