Work is currently underway to modernize and harmonize the municipal sewage system in the Rue Frontenac area of Saint Lazare.

The project, which will cost just over $7.5 million will fix problems associated with septic installations, according to the city.

Nearly three kilometers of new sewage pipes will be installed into trenches and 155 residential drinking water service entrances will be replaced up to the street right-of-way.

In addition, more than 20,000 square meters of new granular street foundations and new pavement will be done, including nearly one kilometer of culvert replacement. Two kilometers of ditches will also be re-profiled to improve stormwater drainage.

"This part of the project is divided into three sections in the Rue Frontenac area. About 10 kilometers of new pipes will be installed which will provide about 360 homeowners with sustainable municipal infrastructure," said Christelle Paré, Director of Communications and Community Relations for the city.

The work being done by Groupe ALI Excavation affects only the third lot and covers three kilometers,"  added Paré.

The city will also extend its drinking water network on Route de la Cité-des-Jeunes between Chemin Sainte Angélique and Montée Labossière.

"This project, the costs of which are fully covered by the city as part of the 2019-2023 Gas Tax and Quebec Contribution Program (TECQ), will make it possible to loop the network which will improve fire protection and supply about 30 properties with drinking water," said Paré.

The overall project when construction began in 2022, represents an investment of $31,452,200. It is financed by the Municipal Water Infrastructure Program (PRIMEAU), TECQ and the city's unrestricted operating surplus, as stipulated in borrowing By-law 1135.

The work will be completed this fall.
