The members of the Table de concertation des aînés de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (TCA VS) announce the continuation of their Let's be loving toward seniors awareness campaign. Targeting people aged 50 and over, the campaign aims to counter abuse in all its forms.

In partnership with Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the campaign began in 2021 with the distribution of magnets and resource directories listing the contact details of organizations offering specific support related to elder abuse.

Elder abuse can take many forms. It can be psychological, physical, sexual, material or financial, organizational, ageist or a violation of rights.

The General Manager of Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Sébastien Laliberté, welcomed the return of this prevention campaign, which mobilizes the entire community: "We live in an environment where being aware of abuse can make a real difference to the quality of life of our seniors. Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges salutes all those involved in maximizing our awareness and vigilance throughout the year".

Reaching out to seniors

From June 1 to 22, a door-to-door operation will be carried out by GRAVES community workers (ITMAV) in collaboration with Sureté du Québec officers and other community organizations.

Across several municipalities in Vaudreuil-Soulanges, certain sectors have been prioritized based on the high proportion of seniors living there, as well as on various indicators of the population's heightened vulnerability.

The project's collaborator, Community Relations Officer Catherine Sénéchal of the Sûreté du Québec de la MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, praised the initiative created by local authorities: "The aim of the project is to inform the senior population about the local resources available in our MRC. We want to equip citizens to prevent abuse and make a difference. Unfortunately, it's a very real problem".

During the door-to-door campaign, the workers will be handing out a directory of community organizations for seniors.

Please note that it is still possible to purchase a magnet for a loved one, by contacting the Grand rassemblement des aînés de Vaudreuil et Soulanges (GRAVES) at 450-424-0111.
