The Sûreté du Québec invites road users to be cautious during this long vacation, including National Patriots' Day, from May 19 to 22.
The arrival of good weather means that there will be an increased number of vulnerable users on the road network, such as motorcyclists, people with reduced mobility, cyclists and pedestrians.
With this in mind, the SQ wanted to remind people of the importance of sharing the road in a harmonious and safe manner. Whether on the road or off-road, responsible behaviour that respects the Highway Safety Code will contribute to improving road safety.
To this end, several road safety operations will take place throughout Quebec. Sûreté du Québec police officers will be attentive to risky behaviours and factors contributing to collisions, such as reckless and excessive speed, failure to wear a seatbelt, use of a cell phone while driving, and driving ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The objective of the Transportation Safety Strategy 2021-2026, Human Life at the Heart of Our Actions, is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions throughout the Sûreté du Québec's territory.
The Sûreté du Québec and its partners are implementing action plans in each of the Strategy's areas of focus: Partnership, Intervention, Awareness, Technology, Evaluation (PISTE), in order to work towards the common goal of making our roads, trails and waterways safer.
All of this is to remind us that the road is a public space for sharing and collective behaviour is about adapting to other behaviours.
