Hudson officials are continuing their efforts to prevent further flooding after high water levels in the Lake of Two Mountains began encroaching onto residential properties and seeping into basements in recent days.

The town's website reports that 31 basements have been flooded and water has risen onto the land of another 39 properties. Officials from the fire department have been visiting all affected properties daily to assess each situation.

Homeowners with private wells are advised to have the water tested to determine if it has been contaminated with lake water before drinking it. Anyone working on their flooded properties should also be cautious and wear a life jacket.

The water level in the lake has stabilized at 24.21 cubic meters and could begin to recede by Saturday depending on weather conditions. The long-range weather forecast indicates clear skies and mild sunny weather for the the next seven days.
