Terrasse-Vaudreuil Mayor Michel Bourdeau waded into flooded side-streets along the waterfront north of 1st Boulevard this morning to assess the situation and reassure affected residents that the town is doing everything possible to aid affected homeowners.

Bourdeau told NeoMedia that while the flooding isn't as severe as it was during the two previous floods in 2017 and 2019 when when the water level in the Lake of Two Mountains was higher, it's still a serious situation for everyone who has to deal with their third flood within the past seven years.

"There are 24 homes right now that are surrounded by water and he people are very stressed. It may not be evident, but they are going through a very difficult time right now not only because of the current situation, but also because of the memories they have from the other two floods," said Bourdeau.

"Even the people nearby who aren't flooded, they are anxiously watching their sump pumps to make sure they're working and hope there isn't a power failure. People still remember it took a long time for the water level to drop back to its normal level during the last two floods," he added.

As of today, the water level should be at its current peak and stay that way for a few more days because of the continuing snowmelt in northern Quebec, but it should begin to slowly return to its normal level soon, said Bourdeau. The good news is the long-range weather forecast is calling for clear skies and sunshine for the next seven days.

Bourdeau said he understands people's frustrations and sense of despair at having to endure another flood in a short time span and hopes they do their best to keep a positive attitude despite the difficult and challenging situation. He is also encouraging residents to keep in contact with town hall and take advantage of its resources.

Residents not affected by the flood can help ease the additional strain currently being put on the town's pumping station by minimizing the amount of water being sent into to its sewer system.

The town recommends that during the current flood emergency, residents should not drain their pools, wash their cars, flush toilets unnecessarily, do laundry at peak times and take long baths or showers.

The flood has also closed Perrot Boulevard North in île-Perrot except for residents who live in the immediate area. Motorists are advised to enter and exit Terrasse-Vaudreuil via 3rd Avenue.
