The water level of the Lake of Two Mountains, in Vaudreuil-Dorion, is expected to reach 24.21 meters this Thursday and according to the forecast of the Ministry of Public Security, the levels could remain high for about ten days. There is a good chance that the water will recede relatively slowly. At least that's what the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion said in its most recent update.

"As a preventive measure, several measures have been put in place and will remain in place as long as the level of the Lake of Two Mountains is high in order to protect our infrastructures. A dike has been installed on Saint-Charles Avenue, between Lefebvre and Turcot streets. Additional balloons and pumps have also been added on Saint-Charles Avenue. For now, the situation on the territory of Vaudreuil-Dorion remains under control. We would like to remind you that in 2017, the level of the Lake of Two Mountains had reached 24.66 meters and, in 2019, 24.63 meters," says the City administration.

Vigilance is required and citizens are invited to take the necessary measures.

Self-serve sand stations

Two self-serve sand stations are available to citizens. Citizens can purchase sandbags, tyraps and polythene to make dikes at the municipal garage (205 Valois Street) by following the instructions Sandbags. The municipal garage will be open until 8 p.m. and will be accessible between 7:15 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4.

The two self-serve sand sites are located at Dorion-Gardens Park and at the corner of Breslay Street and Chemin des Chenaux. Citizens must bring their shovels.

Safety reminders

Citizens are invited to check their sump pump and make sure it is functional. The same goes for the backflow valve, which must be installed.

The valve automatically closes to prevent sewage from an overloaded main sewer connection from flowing back into the basement.

Should the situation deteriorate, it is also suggested that furniture, electrical appliances and personal belongings be removed from the basement to limit the potential damage.

The preparation of a 72-hour kit is also recommended. All the information you need can be found on the City's website under Emergency Measures.

For any additional information, you can contact the Vaudreuil-Dorion Fire Department at 450-455-3371, ext. 2805, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or dial 311. For emergency calls, dial 911.
