The Plaisirs d’hiver outdoor winter sports program is back again this year and will take place every Saturday from January 28th to February 18th, and on Sunday February 12th, exceptionally.

The public is invited to come and try out the different winter activities at Parc de la Maison-Valois and Harwood Nature Park. Vaudreuil-Dorion residents can secure their spot for certain of the activities by registering online ahead of time starting January 19th at 9 a.m.

The Plaisirs d’hiver initiative aims to encourage the public to have fun outdoors and stay active during the winter. "This year, the programming will be divided into two categories: Introductory activities in winter sports and theme-based evening activities such as an evening skating activity and a torchlight walk”, explains Vincent Bastien, Director of Recreation and Culture.

Parc de la Maison Valois

On January 28th, citizens will be able to try their hand at windsurfing in the baie de Vaudreuil. As the latest trend in the world of board sports, windsurfing allows you to ski or surf on the snow thanks to the power of the wind.

On February 4th, in collaboration with Ski de fond Québec, people will be able to borrow cross-country skis to try it out. Please note that poles are not provided for this introductory activity to encourage participants to learn the proper skate manoeuvres. Lastly, on Sunday, February 12th, under the supervision of Les Toasters skateboarding school, citizens will be able to try snowskating, a sliding sport halfway between skateboarding and snowboarding.

The ice ring at Parc de la Maison-Valois will put on a festive air on January 28th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., as people gather for a fun evening skating activity with lively music provided by a DJ. Citizens will be able to borrow skates free of charge by presenting their citizen card.

Harwood Nature Park

On February 11th, winter sport enthusiasts will also be able to experience snowshoe-skiing, a hybrid sport between snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. In the program finale, the public will be invited to test-ride electric fat bikes on February 18th.

From 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on February 11th, citizens will be able to take part in the torchlight walk to be held at Harwood Nature Park for the second consecutive year. Residents can borrow snowshoes for free on presentation of their citizen's card. Participants are invited to bring a flashlight. Dogs are not allowed on the trail.

At 6 p.m. during the theme-based activities on January 28th and February 11th, the Caravane Mozaïk will be on site to host a workshop on how to make a hot compress (Magic Bag) to keep hands and feet warm (spaces are limited).

Scheduled times and activities are subject to change without notice depending on weather conditions. Citizens are urged to call the Info-Annulation line at 450 424-8502 to make sure activities are taking place.

For more details, please consult the complete program in the website’s Plaisirs d’hiver section.
