The Town Council of Pincourt has adopted its budget for the 2023 fiscal year, which amounts to $28,579,200. Rising costs for essential services for the population, combined with high inflation and rising interest rates, have made budgeting difficult.

The increase in property taxes in 2023 is mainly due to the increase in the budgets of external organizations, which translates into a 5.2% increase in the quotas, including the services of the Sûreté du Québec and the MRC, and major contracts of 8.6%.

In addition, the Town of Pincourt's incompressible expenses in 2023 amount to more than $25 million and represent more than 90% of total expenses.

To this end, the Town will inject $1,136,300 from the allocated surplus to minimize the impact on taxpayers. This action will be possible thanks to the sound management of public finances over the past decade. The 4.91% tax increase will mean a tangible increase in the average home's tax bill of $150.13 in 2023, as council had to consider the inflation rate of about 7% in making its decision.

"We understand that this increase may be difficult for some families, but we believe it is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens," said Claude Comeau, Mayor of the Town of Pincourt. "We have worked hard to find ways to reduce costs and optimize our spending, but we must ensure that we retain the means to maintain our quality services and pursue our development."

Mayor Comeau reassured citizens that the Town, along with Council, would continue to be transparent in its financial management to ensure that funds are used responsibly and effectively.

Three-year plan (2023-2024-2025)

The three-year capital program for the next quarter will be in excess of $20 million. Several projects will be carried out over the next few years notably to serve the youth of Pincourt.

Mayor Comeau would like to thank the managers and the municipal council for their hard work in developing our 2023 budget.

"We know that the trust of our citizens is essential to our success as a town," said Comeau. "Despite the many challenges in 2022, we have managed to maintain a high level of services to our citizens while streamlining our spending. We are committed to continuing in 2023 to work closely with our citizens to ensure that Pincourt remains a vibrant and prosperous town for all."

The 2023 budget will be detailed on the Pincourt website, by following the pathway: The Town > Finances & Taxes > Budget & Financial Report.
