Winter storm expected to hit Quebec just before Christmas
Just as we are getting ready to experience the first holiday season without health restrictions, a major low-pressure system could thwart our plans.
Unless there is a major change in the next few hours, significant amounts of snow and rain are expected. All of this will be combined with strong winds and blowing snow, which will complicate travel throughout Quebec, starting Thursday.
Freezing rain is likely in the transition zone from snow to rain. Since there is still some uncertainty about the system's trajectory, meteorologists cannot confirm the amount of precipitation expected at this time.
According to Environment Canada, the near-historic storm is expected to last until Saturday, with snow squalls expected over the southern part of the province due to the passage of cold air over the Great Lakes.
With the arrival of this cold air, temperatures will drop below normal on Sunday and early next week.
Remember to plan ahead this holiday season. Road conditions will be challenging and power outages are possible.
