Île Perrot Toyota was fined after pleading guilty on December 11, 2023 to charges under the Consumer Protection Act.

The Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC) accused the dealership of charging more for the sale of automobiles than was advertised on its website.  Additional charges under the heading "IPT Advantage", amounting to $599, were added to the price. The violations were committed in March and April 2021.

He will have to pay fines totaling $12,030.

The right price is important

The OPC reminds us that the price of a product or service is one of the most important pieces of information for consumers. In Quebec, all retailers, manufacturers and advertisers are prohibited from charging more than the advertised price. In addition, merchants are required to advertise an "all-inclusive" price, which includes all charges except taxes.

Consumers who have paid charges that have been added to the price advertised by a merchant may contact the Office to find out about possible recourse procedures.
