Développement Vaudreuil-Soulanges welcomes the imminent return of dynamic management on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge. Interview with Joanne Brunet, General Manager of the regional organization, which recently launched a survey to assess the impact of congestion on highways 20 and 40 on the region's businesses and industries.

How did Ms. Brunet and her team at DEV react to the news of the return of this configuration? “It's great news for the morning rush hour. This should lighten traffic heading towards Montreal, and thus have a positive effect on the flow of traffic on the A20. MTMD is to be commended for all its hard work on this project. The infrastructure maintenance team keeps us regularly informed of the various works in progress, and is proactive in trying to minimize the impact of obstructions on the bridge. Still, we're disappointed that dynamic management isn't in place on weekends, when we see long traffic jams even on Saturdays and Sundays.” 

Is the business community receiving this news positively? “Businesses are also relieved that their employees should benefit from this new configuration. They are aware of the burden of traffic issues.The supply chain should improve (shorter delivery times).The end of free public transport and tolls on the A30 worries business people, as they consider that this could bring back the phenomenon of solo driving and an increase in heavy trucks, which will increase the flow on the A40 and A20.” 

Will the reinstatement of dynamic management have a positive impact on the business of local merchants? ”Our regional brand image has taken a beating since November.People are talking daily, both on social networks and in the national media, about how difficult it is to get around in these areas. This news should be beneficial in encouraging consumers to resume their shopping habits at our merchants during the week.”

In conclusion, the DEV team is confident that the project will go ahead. “While we remain very optimistic, we are aware of the bridge's obsolescence, and we are not immune to other obstacles between now and the opening of lanes on the new bridge, scheduled for the end of 2026.Overall, the DEV team feels fairly confident that businesses will be able to benefit from this new configuration.Nevertheless, this remains to be demonstrated.”
