Recovery of winterized thermoplastics for boats at three ecocentres
With the boating season fast approaching, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC is announcing the return of its thermoplastic boat winterization recovery program.
To facilitate the recovery of this material and divert it from disposal, Vaudreuil-Soulanges boat owners will now be able to drop off their plastics at the MRC's ecocentres in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Rigaud and Saint-Zotique between May 11 and June 10.
The ecocentres are open according to the following schedule:
Vaudreuil-Dorion (2800, rue Henry-Ford, Vaudreuil-Dorion)
Tuesday to Sunday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saint-Zotique (2050, rue Principale, Saint-Zotique)
Tuesday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rigaud (32, rue de la Coopérative, Rigaud)
Monday, Thursday and Friday: 12 am to 5 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Steps to follow
Grommets and strings must be cut and removed from plastics before arriving at the ecocenters to ensure a smooth recovery process. Go to www.synergielaurentides.ca/procedure to view a video explaining how to make your plastics compliant for drop-off.
The plastics collected by Compo Haut-Richelieu are recycled into resin, which is then used to create new thermoplastics for winter storage - a fine example of perfect circularity.
The thermoplastic boat winterization recovery program is designed to meet the federal government's “Zero Plastic Waste” objectives. It involves nine Montérégie MRCs, including Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
